[ College Minor | Coursework | Adolf Loos, architect ]

During my junior year of college, I took a course called "Fin de Siecle Vienna" (turn-of-the-century Vienna), which was cross-listed under both German and Growth & Structure of Cities. To make a long story short, I adored the class (although I'm a bit bitter about the grade ;)), which was all of *two people*-- myself and one other woman-- and discovered that I really enjoyed the Cities side of my german course.

By the end of the course, I had completed a monstrous project on the Viennese architect Adolf Loos, learned a lot, and had discovered a new field of interest. That course ended up being the first of the seven classes I took for my last-minute minor in Growth & Structure of Cities, six of them my senior year. (Coursework) My only regrets are that I didn't take full advantage of everything I could have learned, and that I didn't discover Cities earlier, so it could have been my major, rather than a minor.

For a short while, I considered becoming an architect; it's still something of a dream for me, but I also have to consider the less glamorous aspect of the job, and measure it against the more exciting parts. I'm still, however, interested in Loos and a few other architects, and my minor has given me a new appreciation for buildings, cities, and urban planning.
