[ To Bryn Mawr College | From Bryn Mawr to the PAFA ]

My advice is that if you are coming from a different direction, or want more precise directions, please try using Mapquest. They offer pretty accurate driving directions, and I use them frequently. The ceremony and reception site addresses can be found in your invitation or on the guest information page.

To Bryn Mawr College (Ceremony site)
Taft Garden is located directly behind the (Mariam Coffin) Canaday Library. Note that both of the following Maps of Bryn Mawr College are very large; the color map may take a while to load. Canaday (#14, color map) is next to the elaborate Thomas Great Hall. (#18, color map).
  If you get lost, ask any student for directions to Canaday Library-- you should be able to find Taft Garden from there (directly behind it). [ Color 3-D Map | Black & White Map ]
FROM CENTER CITY (Philadelphia) BY CAR

These directions start in the circle around City Hall in Center city, which is also only 2 blocks from the PAFA, and immediately adjacent the Courtyard Philadelphia Downtown Marriott, where the wedding party is staying.
  • Turn RIGHT onto JFK Boulevard until to you get to 30th Street Station. Follow the signs for I-76W.
  • Go straight (Amtrak's 30th Street Station is on your left) and merge onto 76W (stay left on the ramp).
  • Take the GIRARD AVE/PHILADELPHIA ZOO exit (#36) towards US-13/US-30W.
  • Merge onto US-30W/N. 34th St. (0.25 miles)
  • Turn LEFT onto W. Girard Ave/US-30W. (1.2 miles)
  • Turn slight RIGHT onto LANCASTER AVE/US-30. (6.5 miles)
  • Turn RIGHT onto N. Merion Avenue (gas station on your right, Starbucks on your left). Follow it under the train station, around the dogleg to the right, and across Montgomery Avenue.
  • You should see Bryn Mawr College's gateway/sign on your left, at the corner of what is now Morris Ave. and Yarrow St.
  • Continue STRAIGHT on Morris Ave and turn LEFT into the first driveway/parking lot. Park.
  • * If there is no room left in the parking lot, pull out, turn LEFT on Morris, LEFT on New Gulph Rd., and turn LEFT into the driveway of a parking lot (AFTER Merion Ave). You should be in the Merion parking lot, behind Merion Dorm. Park there.

    Total Time: Approx 40+ minutes, 10.5 miles.

    • FROM CENTER CITY (Philadelphia) BY TRAIN

    The train ride from 30th Street Station to Bryn Mawr takes 20 minutes; walking from the train station to Taft Garden itself takes 10-12 minutes, perhaps half a mile away.
    1. From Amtrak's 30th Street Station (or any center-city station)...
    2. Take the local Septa R5 line towards Thorndale/Paoli. (Look up Septa schedules) (Rate: $3.75-$4.50, one-way)
    3. Get off at Bryn Mawr Station (right after Haverford Station).
    4. You should be on the correct side of the tracks (the parking lot side). Cross the street (Montgomery Ave) and continue walking along Morris Ave for one block.
    5. Bryn Mawr campus begins at the large Bryn Mawr College sign and gateway on the corner of Yarrow and Morris Ave.
    6. Turn left on Yarrow and go straight to the fork in the road (1 block).
    7. Go through the archway (Rockerfeller Arch) at the fork.
    8. Take your second path left, which takes you across a raised green (Carpenter Library, underground) surrounded by black iron railing.
    9. Cross the wide path (by the sculpture) on the other side of the green, and go down the stone steps into Taft Garden.
    FROM THE NORTH (New York City)

    Bryn Mawr is about 110 miles (2 to 2.5 hours) from New York City by car. Allow yourself 3+ hours if traveling by train (via Amtrak and then Septa).
    1. Take I-95 S (Portions toll). (4.1 miles)
    2. I-95 S becomes NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE S (Portions toll). (17.1 miles)
    3. Take the exit, exit number 6, towards PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE. ( 1.1 miles)
    4. Merge onto NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE EXT (Portions toll). (5.2 miles)
    5. NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE EXT becomes PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE W (Portions toll). (24.7 miles)
    6. Take the I-476/NORTHEAST EXTENSION EXITS 31 - 39 exit, exit number 25A, towards ALLENTOWN/PHILADELPHIA/CHESTER/EXITS 31 - 39. (0.2 miles)
    7. Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp. (0.2 miles)
    8. Merge onto PENNSYLVANIA TPKE NORTHEAST EXT (Portions toll). (0.5 miles)
    9. PENNSYLVANIA TPKE NORTHEAST EXT becomes I-476 S. (6.5 miles)
    10. Get off at old exit 5, St. Davids/Villanova. Keep right at the fork.
    11. Merge onto E. Lancaster Ave/US-30.
    12. Continue with #8 from the "From the South" directions.
    FROM THE SOUTH (Washington, D.C.)

    Bryn Mawr is approximately 160 miles (3 hours) from the Northern VA / Washington, D.C. area. Times and mileage varies, depending on where you're starting.
    1. Take 495N to I-95N.
    2. Continue on I-95N through baltimore (do not take I-695).
    3. Take I-495 towards Port of Wilmington, DE.
    4. I-495 becomes I-95 again.
    5. Shortly after entering the city (traffic gets tighter), take the exit for I-476N (exit 7) towards Plymouth Meeting.
    6. Follow 476N for 13 miles.
    7. Get off at the St. Davids/Villanova exit (old exit 5), and turn RIGHT on E. Lancaster Ave.
    8. Go 2 miles on Lancaster Ave (passing Villanova University on your left).
    9. Turn LEFT on N. Merion Ave., and go under the bridge (for the train station).
    10. Cross over Montgomery Ave (first light).
    11. PARKING LOTS: 1- Go straight on Morris Ave. Take your first left into the visitor parking lot. 2- If that one is full, exit the lot, turning LEFT onto Morris Ave, and a LEFT at the light onto New Gulph Road. Take your second LEFT into the Merion Parking lot; the parking lot extends downhill into a much larger parking lot, near the Park science building. 3- If the Merion Lot and the Park Science lot are full, try to find a place to park on the street.

    From Bryn Mawr to the PAFA (Ceremony site to reception site)
      The PAFA, or the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, is located at Broad St. & Cherry St, in center city, Philadelphia. A red stone Victorian building, it will be dwarfed by the buildings around it, and you won't be able to miss the prominently-placed City Hall about two blocks to your left, placed in the center of the street, with the traffic pattern circling it. The PAFA holds the honor of being the oldest art school and museum in the United States, founded in 1805.
    1. If parking in Merion parking lot, turn RIGHT onto New Gulph Rd.
    2. Turn RIGHT onto Morris Ave (first light).
    3. Go straight over Montgomery Ave (first light) and dogleg left to go under the bridge (Bryn Mawr station).
    4. Turn LEFT at the next light onto W. Lancaster Ave/US-30. Continue for 6.5 miles.
    5. Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto W. Girard Ave/US-30. (1.0 miles)
    6. Turn LEFT onto I-76E/US30E towards Central Philadelphia. Continue for 1.3 miles. Stay to the left.
    7. TAKE the I-676E/US30E exit #38 (left exit) towards Central Philadelphia. Merge onto I-676E, continue for 0.7 miles.
    8. Take the BROAD STREET exit. Keep RIGHT.
    9. Turn RIGHT onto 15th St.
    10. Park in the first parking lot immediately on your left. The low red building behind the parking lot is the reception site (the PAFA). Go around to the front (to your left).
    11. *If the first lot on 15th St. is full,* turn LEFT onto Cherry Street immediately, and cross Broad Street. Park in the first parking lot on your left. The reception site (the PAFA) is across the street.
