Trial law panel talk hosted by ATLA, PAD

by Steven Pipenger

The Seton Hall University School of Law Chapter of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and Phi Alpha Delta co-sponsored a discussion entitled "What is a Trial Lawyer?" on November 6.

The program, attended by over 50 students, featured the Hon. Alfred Lechner, retired Federal Judge for the District of New Jersey and Ken Marano, a highly experienced civil trial practitioner.

Each distinguished guest extended their insight regarding the ins and outs of trial work and the life of a trial lawyer.

Lechner imparted his perspective as a retired District Court Judge and practicing attorney, emphasizing the importance of witness preparation and knowing what a client is going to say when he or she sits on the stand during direct examination.

Mr. Marano stressed personal preparation, building a rapport with clients and outside witnesses, being organized and knowing your courtroom and local rules.

The presentations were followed by question and answer session. At the conclusion of the program, Lechner and Marano spoke with individual students.
